First Christian Church
Small Group Opportunities

Work... Play... Sing... Pray... Talk... Know... Laugh... Grow...

There are many small groups active at First Christian Church, with many different purposes, serving many different interests. We hope you will find one or more you’re interested in joining or learning more about. All groups will welcome your interest and be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Most groups listed here meet on a regular schedule from Labor Day weekend through Memorial Day weekend, but may recess or meet on a different schedule during the summer months. Check with the group leader or Church Office for current meeting times.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir upholds a long, distinguished musical tradition at First Christian Church. The only requirement for membership is an interest in celebrating faith through music and song. The Chancel Choir provides music for the Sunday morning worship service during the regular church year and also participates in special musical events during the course of the year. Practice is held each Wednesday night at 7 p.m

Home Ministry Groups

These are small groups (8 - 12 people) that meet in homes on a regular basis for the purpose of Bible study, prayer and support. Social interaction is certainly a part of these gatherings, but the primary purpose is ministry to one another and personal spiritual growth. These are "small families" within our greater community and they provide opportunity for becoming better acquainted with others and for expanding one's knowledge and insight. They are intergenerational groups that include entire families as well as single youths and adults. There is a place for everyone. Transportation can be provided.

Bible Study

At various times of the year, opportunities are offered for studying the Bible in a small group.

Sunday Learning Hour

First Christian Church offers Sunday Christian Education opportunities for children and youth at all grade levels, plus a variety of adult classes. Our Learning Hour is from 11:00 am to noon, following our Sunday Worship.

Inquirer's Class

The Inquirer's Class gives prospective members, new members and those who are simply interested in finding out more about First Christian Church a chance to do so. A series of four classes are held each quarter. Members of the ministerial staff and lay people cover various topics including opportunities for involvement; history of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and First Christian Church; and church organization. The concluding class is a tour of the church building.

Recreational Activities

Depending on the season, First Christian Church often sponsors volleyball, basketball and softball teams which play in church leagues or just for fun. Men's women's and/or coed teams may be organized, depending on interest. Athletic ability and skill in the sport are not requirements.
