Worship and Gathering Facilities
Our Main
Sanctuary (1st Floor)
is the setting for Sunday morning worship at 9:30 AM. It lends itself
to a legacy of great preaching and fine music in a beautiful worship atmosphere.
There is seating for 600 on the main floor and a balcony that provides
ample overflow space for community events, special musical concerts and
events, and use by our next door neighbor, Drake University, and other
community organizations.
A Building Task Force is currently working with an architect to recommend changes in the Sanctuary and Narthex that will enable us to make these facilities more flexible, creating a warmer and more intimate space suitable to a congregation of 400, while not losing the ability to serve larger community needs. These new concepts are now being formulated for presentation to the congregation soon. It is a really exciting time for us!
Fellowship
Hall (1st Floor)
occupies the rest of the first floor, providing generous space for all
kinds of church and community activities. Fellowship dinners are a regular
occurance here, together with wedding receptions and similar functions.
Most of the activities for LOGOS, our Wednesday
night program for children and youth, are also centered here. A large,
recently modernized, kitchen is adjacent.
The Chapel
(2nd Floor)
A chapel worship service is held each Tuesday evening at 6 PM. This service
offers a small, less formal service in the intimate environment of our
lovely second floor chapel, which seats up to 80. This more casual gathering
is designed to provide a nourishing worship opportunity in the midst of
a busy week. The chapel is also used for small weddings and other occasions.
A suite of Church Offices is also located on the second floor, just to the right of the elevators. Also on this floor is a well maintained Church Library, several meeting and adult classrooms.
The Third Floor houses children's classrooms, a media center, as well as office space for several area eccumenical agencies.
Our Drake Neighborhood Community Center occupies the entire fourth floor, with weekday activities for children and youth, meeting space for many neighborhood organizations, and a large gym that serves many area groups.
There is also a fifth floor that includes the gym and other church and community functions.
